Basic Biscuits

This basic biscuits recipe is easy to make and takes no time at all - great for keeping the kids entertained!

  • 90g Butter (unsalted) softened
  • 100g Unrefined golden caster sugar
  • 1 Egg(s)
  • ½tsp Vanilla extract
  • 200g Plain white flour
  • ½tsp Baking powder
  • ½tsp Salt

Royal Icing:

  • 100g Icing Sugar
  • 1-2 tbsp water
  • A few drops of food colouring (optional)

  1. Preheat the oven to 170°C (150°C fan, gas mark 3). Sieve the flour, baking powder and salt into a bowl and set aside
  2. Place the butter and sugar into your Food Processor and blend until pale
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract and blitz then add the flour mixture in 3 stages on a medium speed until a dough is formed
  4. Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to about 0.5cm and cut the biscuits using your cutters and then transfer onto a baking tray. Roll up the trimmings and repeat stages above to make more biscuits
  5. Top Tip: Dip your biscuit cutters into flour before cutting to ensure you get a clean edge and that the dough doesn’t stick
  6. Bake for 8-12 minutes until golden brown. Remove from the oven and transfer to a cooling rack and leave until completely cool before decorating
  7. To make your royal icing, put the Icing Sugar into a bowl and add a few drops of water at a time and mix until you have a smooth consistency. Pour into a piping bag and decorate to your liking
